The Frey’s are easily some of the most despicable characters in the series. As viewers, the first time we hear of the Frey’s is when Catelyn finds out that the 90 year of Walder Frey is set to marry his 8 th wife. This initial encounter colours our opinion of the Frey’s, which is finally cemented when Walder Frey flouts Guest’s Right and has Robb, Catelyn and Talisa Stark killed during the red wedding. With a mass hatred for this house, it’s an understatement to say that their deaths were satisfying to us all. The following is how House Frey became extinct.
Fat Walda, Season 6
Ramsay Bolton has carried out many unspeakable acts to solidify his claim to his father’s inheritance. Roose Bolton, who married Fat Walda to strengthen his alliance with the Frey’s, eventually impregnates his wife. She gives birth to a son, and this is a huge threat to Ramsay’s claim. As a result, he kills his father, Fat Walda, and the baby. With this, there is no one to challenge his right to lead his house.
Walder Frey, Season 6
One of the most sacred rules in the North is the Guest’s Right. According to this rule, it is the height of dishonor to harm a guest living under your roof, even if they are sworn enemies. This rule is old enough to have influenced folklore – a popular story about the same revolves around a Lord who broke this rule and was punished by the Gods when his children were turned into rats and stuffed into a pie. Interestingly, this folklore foreshadows Walder Frey’s death. Arya Stark, on leaving the House of Black and White, makes her way to the Twins and kills Frey’s sons – Black Walder and Lothar. She then chops them up into a pie and feeds it to Walder Frey before revealing what she has done and who she is. While he looks on in horror, she drives a knife through his heart and kills him.
Entire Frey House, Season 7
Season 7 opens with Walder Frey addressing a hall filled with guests. We learn that all the guests are prominent members of the Frey family and have been called under the guise of Walder revealing a plan to them. The guests are all served an exquisite wine and Walder raises a toast to them all, initiating the drinking. As the guests begin to choke, they learn that Walder Frey is Arya Stark, and slowly die, one by one. With this the entire House Frey is now extinct.
