Emilia Clarke Reveals She’s Actually Part-Indian and We are all Surprised

Emilia Clarke, the British actress who plays the Mother of Dragons in the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” and as Qi’ra in the “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” revealed she is one-eighth Indian in a recent interview.

While speaking to Vanity Fair, Clarke mentions that her grandmother had to wear makeup to hide the fact that she was half Indian.

“The fact that [my grandmother] had to hide her skin color, essentially, and try desperately to fit in with everyone else must’ve been incredibly difficult,” the 31-year-old actress said. “So, yeah: history of fighters.”

This is news to some fans, but it’s actually not the first time Clarke has brought up her grandmother’s story.

In November 2017, she revealed to Harper’s Bazaar that her grandmother, who died when she was only 16, really loved India.

“It’s this epic story: My grandmother was colonial Indian, and it was a big old family secret because her mum had an affair with someone in India,” she said. “She would wear makeup to make her skin look white.”

After her grandmother passed away, Clarke went to India with her boyfriend at the time to scatter her ashes.

“She loved India more than she loved England,” she said. “F***, yeah. I love that part of me—I’m like one-eighth Indian.”
