Ban on Tiktok by Chennai High court
The high court of chennai has banned the use of Tiktok observing that the app encourages pornography, pedophiles, animal cruelty among others in the minds of children. What started out as a hobby soon turned into an obsession among the youth. People started resorting into different strange tactics to get the likes and popularity. It started with people posting semi-nude videos for gaining more likes, followers and thereby popularity. Then people resorted to animal cruelty, followed by dangerous stunts which resulted in loss of life as well. The shit hit the fan when people started absuing minors and posted some child-pornographic videos which the courts couldn’t take lightly. Citing all these reasons, chennai high court and kerala high court has banned the usage of the app in their respective states. The app publisher repealed the ban decision in the supreme court.
Why Ban on Tiktok by Supreme court of India
Following the ban on Tiktok by the Chennai high court, the app developers appealed to the highest court of India. Even the supreme court of India has upheld the ban on tiktok by the chennai high court. Following this, Google and Apple removed the Tiktok app from Google play store and Apple store respectively. Confused Indian Tiktok users can still be seen searching in google for terms such as “Tiktok download”, “Tiktok app download”, “Tiktok apk download”, “Tiktok for android” etc. This in turn has resulted in a flood of memes and jokes on Tiktok in Indian social media.

Following the ban, Tiktok representatives have commented that they are going to appeal it again on 24th April. Also, they said that this ban is temporary and hoping to resolve the reservations the supreme court has about the app and its content. The Tiktok administrators have already started moderating content and removed offensive content from the app.
