After creating the runaway hit Your Name (Kimi no na wa) in 2016, Makoto Shinkai is back after a three-year long break with “Weathering with You” (Tenki No Ko). After watching the minute long teaser and being captivated by the almost realistic yet dream like scenery, we simply can’t wait for more.

According to reports from the Film Stage, “Weathering with You” is about Hodaka Morishima, a high schooler who moves to Tokyo from a faraway place and Hina Amano, a cheerful girl who lives with her younger brother.

When Hodaka swiftly runs out of money in Tokyo, he lands a job as a writer for an occult magazine in a desperate attempt to survive. He meets Hina in a crowded place during on one of the listless, rainy days that plagued Tokyo after he commenced his job. However, Hina is no ordinary girl. She can clear the skies simply by making a gesture that looks like she’s praying to someone.

In a press conference last year, Mr. Shinkai said that he’d create an enthralling story based on weather that’d make us wonder, laugh and cry at the same time. He said that he’d chosen weather as the central theme since everyone is familiar with it in some way.

It seems like nothing much has changed for the Kimi No Na Wa crew, except the lead voice artists. Radiowimp is rendering the music for this film.

After conducting auditions for about 2000 people, Kotaru Diago and Nana Mori were chosen for the role of Hodako Morishima and Hina Amano respectively. The film is expected to hit the screens on July 19 th ,2019.

Indian anime fans were utterly disappointed over the fact that “Weathering With You” (Tenki no ko) wouldn’t be screened in theatres across India. However, thanks to a petition signed on change.org by numerous otakus and a lot of social media sharing, Mr. Shinkai tweeted that he’ll have a word with his Japanese Distribution company and try to get the movies to Indian screens.

Popular anime and manga news outlet, Crunchy Roll has also written an article on the petition and Makoto Shinkai’s response.
