Season 7 ended with a great cliffhanger – the death of Viserion and his transformation into a white-walker-dragon. This finally evens the odds for both sides, making the final battle one that will certainly be compelling to watch. This final battle, however, is only one of the reasons why we’re so excited about Game of Thrones Season 8. We’re anticipating a ton of great revelations, action, and storylines this coming season. The following is a mix of plot expectations as well as theories about how things will pan out for our favourite characters:
A deeper understanding of the Three Eyed Raven’s power over the Realm
There are so many theories about the Three Eyed Raven and Bran Stark. What they all seem to have in common is the fact that these characters have deeper effects on the happenings of the realm than shown on the surface. Even though time is a loop in this universe, the fact that these characters are central to affecting things to happen the way they should is undeniable. Game of Thrones Season 8 should bring us a deeper understanding of the extent of their powers, whether all their actions are in vain, and whether they can help with the war against the white walkers.
Deaths, deaths everywhere!
Okay, since this is Game of Thrones, we’re not really banking on some of our favourite characters making it out alive. It’s going to be devastating, for sure, and we’re anticipating the following main deaths:
Cersei Lannister: Either in childbirth if the pregnancy is real, or at the hands of Jaime Lannister.
- Arya Stark: Although she is part of the Faceless Men, it does not feel as though her destiny is anything larger than fights and assassinations. She might die during one of the wars, possibly in the first one.
- Jon/Dany: The likelihood of both of them making it out alive is a bit slim. Again, there’s nothing we want more than them to live happily ever after with beautiful children, but it may not be the case.
- Tyrion: Yeah, that’s going to happen. He’s way too loved to survive!
- Jaime Lannister: Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a Bollywood inspired death where he dies in Brienne’s arms.
Whatever the case is, we’re expecting a very bitter-sweet ending.
More clarity on the Faceless Men and their larger role
Do the Faceless Men have a larger role? Are they just red herrings? We’ll find out (hopefully) at some point during Game of Thrones Season 8. We should also find out whether they have any stakes in who sits on the Iron Throne. If these assassins and the Iron Bank are linked, then they’d certainly not want to see the Lannisters on the throne again, since they do not pay their debts!
The throne resolution
Finally, we’re going to find out who sits on the throne. Although we feel that this reveal is not going to be as satisfying as we think. There’s going to be a lot of death and destruction, and a lot of our favourite characters will die. Finally, whoever is left standing is going to rule over whatever is left of the realm. Like we said, it’s going to be bittersweet and we’re anticipating a larger sense of ‘was it worth it?’ to be a part of the final scenes. This is just a speculation on our part but it could tie in nicely with a larger commentary on everything the characters have been through over the course of the series and how many sacrifices they’ve made.
