Ever since the death of Robert Baratheon, the question of who will sit of the Iron Throne has been a recurring one for viewers of Game of Thrones. Of course, with each season, some theories are blown to smithereens while more speculations arise on the final outcome of the show. Having spent way too many hours binge-watching the show, we feel that there’s a case to be made for almost every character that’s vying for this top spot. So, keep reading to know who will sit on the Iron Throne, and why!
Daenerys Targeryen
Daenerys
Daenerys has made a few strong alliances over the course of her journey. From leading a formidable Dothraki army to earning the respect and trust of thousands of Unsullied soldiers, Daenerys has proven herself to be a people’s queen. Her travels have exposed her to a myriad of injustices that plague the commonfolk, and it is this knowledge that can help her rule the realm in a way that truly makes a difference to each and every random citizen. Of course, her large army will play a huge rule in helping her win the throne, and so will the 2 dragons, if they survive. Of all the remaining houses in the realm she certainly has the strongest army, and also has the Night’s Watch and the North behind her (for the time being). This manpower should be enough to overthrow Cersei Lannister, whose numbers are not as impressive as Dany’s.
Jon Snow
If one were to take a traditional view of a single protagonist of a show, then Jon Snow certainly emerges as the main hero. However, this is not the only reason why we suspect that he may eventually end up on the throne. To begin with, Jon has already displayed great leadership skills from an early age. As the former Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, and now the King in the North, Jon has displayed the ability to truly influence people without resorting to displays of power or violence. He is one of the only people to have made deep connections with the Free Folk, which again shows that people tend to trust and gravitate towards him. Jon makes smart choices throughout his journey, focusing more on protecting his people rather than just himself. These are
There is another reason why there are strong chances of Jon being the next King – he may be Azor A’hai. As the one to bring an end to the White Walkers, a man who turns out to be the savior of the realm can also be someone who ends up ruling it. However, Jon has never truly displayed a will to lead. He is a character that has had the mantle of power and responsibility thrust upon him, and has always proven himself to be the right choice for his roles. But, he has never actively sought out such opportunities, so one can even expect him to turn down the throne and return to a simpler life at Winterfell. That is, if he doesn’t get married to Dany. Jon’s royal lineage makes him an eligible contender for the throne too.
Sansa Stark
Cersei Lannister’s prophecy long ago had stated that she will one day be a
Honestly, this would be sweet justice in many ways. Sansa had looked up to Cersei when she was a young girl and often remarks that she had learned a lot from the evil Queen. The Lady of Winterfell has proven herself to not only be a just ruler, but also a ruthless one when necessary (as evidenced with the way she deals with Littlefinger in season 7). Sansa has been growing mentally stronger throughout her journey and it seems as though her destiny might just be to rule over the Kingdom. Cersei had originally thought that the prophecy referred to Sansa, but then changed her mind when Margaery came along. It would be great to see that her original instincts were right all along!
Tyrion Lannister
Is there a GoT fan out there who hates Tyrion Lannister? It seems a bit doubtful! This universally beloved character has proven himself to have leadership capabilities all along. From his wise words to Jon Snow in season 1 to leading the Battle at Blackwater Bay successfully in season 2, Tyrion has shown that his wit is suited to more than just meme-worthy comebacks. In season 4, he tackles his biggest demon, his father, and also learns that the Lannister house is not a place for him. He manages to befriend Oberyn Martel, a man who hates the Lannisters more than anything else, showing his abilities to connect with characters from different walks of life.
Tyrion proves himself to be a worth Hand of King to Daenerys, even though their plans do not always go as they intend. He offers her sound advice throughout and always seems to be deeply concerned about her people and her rule Though Dany is against it, he often asks her to think about the future and her lack of successors so that she can plan ahead in a more
