If you love political storylines, endless gore, and fantastic animation that’s reminiscent of most Shounen manga styles, then you probably went nuts over Akame Ga Kill. With the first season having ended in 2015, you’re probably dying to know when you can expect Akame Ga Kill season 2 to air. We’ve listed down everything you need to know right here, so keep reading!
One of the biggest differences between the manga and anime was the way season 1 ended. As season 1’s animation had completed way before the manga series had even finished publishing the next volume, Akame Ga Kill ended up with its own unique conclusion. In the anime, we see Tatsumi and Mine die, while also seeing Honest die a pretty gruesome death. Spoilers for manga lovers: this doesn’t happen in the manga. In fact, Tatsumi returns to his village while in his dragon form, and Mine gives birth to their child.
So, if the animators do release Akame Ga Kill season 2, then they’ll have to really move away from the manga. In fact, it may revolve around the events of Akame ga Kill! Zero, which is the prequel series. This series follows Mine’s life when she was working as an assassin, before she met Tatsumi. If the show runners do decide to base Akame Ga Kill season 2 on the prequel, the show can work as a pretty cool series that follows a different story and assassination each episode while pulling from the rich world of the manga itself.
Many fans have also been speculating that Akame Ga Kill season 2 might be based on Hinowa ga Crush, the sequel series to Akame Ga Kill. This seems like a more probable route for the animators to take. This is mainly because they’ve already killed the main characters in the anime, and will need to introduce new people.
Hinowa ga Crush follows the story of a young girl called Hinowa, living in a war-torn place called Wakoku. There have been two volumes published in this story, so the anime should be able to pump out a season pretty easily.
It definitely makes sense to market the sequel under the Akame Ga Kill season 2 banner as they’ll already have a strong fan base to cater to. Plus, people have been waiting for Akame Ga Kill season 2 to come out forever, so this feels like a nice way to reward their patience.
With the possibility of season 2 still up in the air, it’s fair to say that it’s too soon to expect any release date to be announced. If the show runners are considering making Akame Ga Kill season 2, then they are probably still in the ideation and animation phase. This seems likely because we haven’t heard anything from the studio about this show.
Believing that the show has been cancelled or shelved forever isn’t exactly accurate. This is because the show runners haven’t confirmed any rumours regarding whether there’s a season 2. They haven’t even addressed any rumours regarding whether season one was the last one. To be fair, it’s been over 5 years since season one’s last episode aired, so fans wouldn’t be wrong to speculate that there will never be another season in the mix. The best course for now is to explore other shows that have similar themes and animation styles.
While you’re waiting with baited breath for Akame Ga Kill season 2, why not watch a few other great anime shows to kill the time? If you’re looking for more shows to watch, you should explore the following titles:
As it’s been so long since the last season was aired, possibility of season 2 becomes slimmer with each passing year. Of course, as is the case with every great show, shortening odds aren’t enough to dissuade fans.
If you want to delve a little deeper into this show’s world, then it makes sense to get your hands on the Hinowa ga Crush manga. It’s been licensed by Yen Press and the good news is that the publisher releases new volumes as and when they are released in Japan. This means you won’t have to wait forever!
