Lord Varys – Who was he, Theories, Future

Varys, the Master of Whisperers or commonly called the Spider, is one of the most mysterious players in the Game of Thrones. He is a fan favourite for many reasons but mostly for his incredible intelligence and his secretive nature. Even if not many people believe this, he certainly has been the key to Daenerys Targaryen’s success in the realm and now holds a supreme post in the council of Daenerys. However, we see Melissandre telling Varys that he will die in this strange country. Was it just to scare him or did Melissandre when and how he would die? Let’s jump into predicting what’s in store for the Spider in the final season.

For that, we need to brush up on an important scene in the show when Varys talks about his past with Tyrion Lannister. Varys opens about the ordeal he went through that made him what he is now, a eunuch. Varys describes how a sorcerer cut his parts and threw them the flame. He tells him that the flames turned blue and he heard voices from them. Later in the show, we see Kinvara, another red priestess, who reminds Varys of this incident. This just shows that the previous sorcerer too was serving the Lord of the Light as every priest and priestess knows what happened to Varys. Even here, Varys gets uncomfortable or intimidated with the words of Kinvara, which is so unusual for a calm person like him. However, the interesting thing to note is that what Varys sees or hears in those blue flames decades ago still hold relevance today. It might have been his own demise that Varys sees. He might have seen something that makes the priestess doubt his intentions in the future, making Kinvara pointing out this incident all the more reason for Varys get uncomfortable. Another thing that Kinvara says here is that they both serve the same Queen (Daenerys) and he has nothing to fear from her if remains a true friend of Dany. Does that mean Varys will betray Dany in the last season? Maybe yes and his betrayal will lead to his death. With Melisandre saying in her last appearance on the show that she will return from Volantis for one last time, it might be to expose the true nature of the Master of Whisperers at the right time. She may even have Kinvara to support her claims.

Another interesting scene shows Dany warning Varys that she will burn him alive if he ever betrays her. This can be a full circle for Varys, as he became his present self after his parts were tossed in the fire. The reason for his betrayal might be a bit hard to guess but it may be the big betrayal that Dany is meant to experience in her life. However, this could all be a distraction and the real betrayal that may come from someone else, maybe even Tyrion Lannister.
