Lucifer, the show, has faced a bit of a roller coaster ride, with the show first being cancelled, then picked up by Netflix, who announced season 5 would be the last. Now, as far as the latest word from Netflix goes, Lucifer is renewed for a sixth season too! This is great news for fans who simply can’t get enough of The Devil and his antics. But, before we start speculating about season 6, let’s go over all we know about the Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date.
At this point, there is no official word on the Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date. There’s a bit of uncertainty about whether the remainder of the season will even air this year. That’s mainly because they still had to film quite a bit of the last episode of season 5. And then, the pandemic struck and all productions halted.
Currently, most TV shows have begun shooting again. So, it’s fair to assume that the same holds true for Lucifer. Hopefully, Netflix will announce the official Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date soon.
During a Pilot TV podcast, Tom Ellis had shed some light on his thoughts about the release date. He said “The second eight episodes, I’m not sure when they’re going to drop because we’ve still got the finale. We were about halfway through it. So we go back, we start with that, and then we go straight into season six. So hopefully that’ll be ready to go, I would imagine, sort of Christmastime or early next year.”
There have already been, of course, a few speculations that Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date will fall in 2021. After that, season 6 might resume as per the regular schedule that TV shows follow. Unless, that is, the pandemic situation grows worse.
One of the biggest factors that lead to a dissatisfying end, or a bad storyline, is when external elements influence the storyline. Remember when DC Comics decided to make the Suicide Squad movie? Arrow Season 3 was, as a result, pretty bad. The writers had to kill off Deadshot just so the producers could use him in the movie.
So, with the announcement of Lucifer season 6, many fans are wondering whether the ending of season 5 will suffer. Fortunately, that is not the case.
During an interview with Collider, Joe Henderson, the showrunner, said ““One of the big things that we said when we agreed to Season 6 is that we did not want to change Season 5 because we loved Season 5. When the back half gets released from Season 5, when Season 5B gets released, I think people will see how much the whole season fits together like, I think, a beautiful jigsaw puzzle. I love it. We didn’t want to change the ending, but what we did is we just ended Season 5. We basically lopped off the act six that Ildy was in the middle of writing, and these stories that we sort of were speeding through anyways, we realized, in retrospect, we were sort of moving really fast on some things and summarizing moments that could actually be stories.”
In fact, Netflix’s decision to pick up Lucifer for a sixth season threw a spanner in the works for the writers. In the same interview with Collider, Ildy Moldrovich said “To be honest, we actually were like, ‘No!’ Because we had crafted what we thought was a really satisfying ending. We thought we had stuck it, and we were very worried about having a subsequent season. It just felt like a denouement to what we thought was such a swan song, but then we talked with the room about it for a couple of days, and just tossed ideas around until we found a story that we realized was a whole other chapter that we just hadn’t thought of. We realized we have one more story to tell. Now we can’t imagine not telling that story.”
We can expect the Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date to be sometime next year, during the first half. However, if they manage to get it out by Christmas, that would be pretty spectacular. As far as the story goes, we can expect part 2 to be as good as part 1.
Hopefully, Netflix will announce the official Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 release date soon. We’re all dying to know what happens next. Aren’t you?
