Peaky Blinders is a British crime drama series created by Steven Knight. The television series is loosely based on a real street gang based in Birmingham, England. Peaky Blinders features Cillian Murphy, Helen McCrory, and Paul Anderson as Tommy Shelby, Elizabeth “Polly” Gray, and Arthur Shelby; the gang’s most senior member. The show is currently into its fifth season, and was last premiered on 22 September 2019.

Overview:

Based on a real story, Peaky Blinders covers the story of a street gang based in Birmingham, England that operated from the end of 19th Century and continued operating till the end of the early twentieth Century. The show focuses on the Peaky Blinders gang and their boss Tommy Shelby as they fight for territory in Birmingham and its surrounding towns. 

Plot:

The show begins when the Peaky Blinders comes to the attention of Major Chest Campbell, a Detective Chief Inspector sent over from Belfast by Winston Churchill. With the main aim of cleaning up communists, gangs and common criminals, Campbell entered the city as Peaky Blinders continue to dominate. 

Peaky Blinders season 2 focuses on showing Peaky Blinders expand their organization in the north and south while maintaining a firm grip in their home ground Birmingham. The second season of Peaky Blinders ends with an exciting shot at Epsom Racecourse wherein Tommy is assigned with the task of hugging a high-rank member of the military on Derby Day.

Peaky Blinders season 3 gets more intense as it starts and ends in 1924 the year wherein Tommy and his family planned on expanding again but this time in the international waters. The season ends showing Tommy Shelby getting ready for the most daring crime that he will ever commit in his career.

Peaky Blinders season 4 starts on Christmas Eve of the year 1925 showing Tommy Shelby in an entirely different avatar. This season shows the former gangster who once was a family man is now estranged from his family and is now solely focused on taking the business forward. The seasons end on the big night where Bonnie Gold faces Goliath as clouds of danger hover around the heads of Tommy Shelby and his family. The season end also shows Changretta playing her trump card something which will entirely change the course of events for Peaky Blinders.

Peaky Blinders season 5 starts two years later on the eve on Black Tuesday as it shows the Shelby family dealing with the Wall Street crash. This season focuses on a lot of new issues as Michael Gray’s plan is revealed and Oswald Mosley’s assassination is put into action. 

Peaky Blinders sixth season is still in the pre-development phase as Steve Knight at the beginning of 2020 revealed that writing for the sixth season of the Peaky Blinders is done and soon they’ll be kicking off with the shooting phase. When asked about when the new season’s going to be released Director Anthony Byrne said: “I start later this year, and then we shoot next year, and I have no idea when it would be out, maybe early 2021, something like that?”
