In terms of outstanding or memorable scenes, season 2 was probably one of the weakest of all seasons. The season started very slowly and gathered pace only during the last three episodes. Due to this, the last episode had so much in it that every scene felt cramped. The show runners could have given breathing space for those scenes by spreading it across two episodes.

Let’s revisit some of the best scenes in the second season of GOT.

10. Tyrion saves Sansa from Jeffory

When Robb wins his battle against the Lannister army and takes Jamie Lannister as a hostage, Joffrey is furious about the whole thing. He thus decides to hurt Sansa to send a message to Robb about what all he can do to his sister. Sansa begs him to forgive her brother and tells him that she has nothing to do with his actions. Joffrey does not care and asks Meryn to hurt her and even strip her. When Sansa is going through this ordeal, Tyrion and Bronn enter the room to intervene. Tyrion asks someone to cover Sansa with some cloth, to which the Hound responds by taking of his cloak to cover her. Tyrion scolds Joffrey, for doing this to his would-be wife. Joffrey retorts by saying that he, being a King, can do anything as he pleases. Tyrion reminds him of the Mad King and his fate. He educates his nephew on how to behave with women before leaving the room with Sansa. He asks Sansa if she wants to leave the wedlock to which Sansa says no.

9. Arya and Tywin

Arya disguises herself as a boy and travels across the realm with a group headed to the Wall. She reaches Harrenhall. Tywin Lannister finds out that Arya is a girl posing as a boy. She tells him that she did so to survive. Tywin lauds her intelligence and makes her his cupbearer. Arya serves Tywin Lannister for a while and often eavesdrops during the council meetings to understand how they are plotting against Robb Stark. In one of the conversations, when Tywin asks his cupbearer about her thoughts on Robb Stark, she responds by saying telling a rumour about how Robb has a supernatural connection with his wolf and is thus invulnerable. When Tywin asks whether she believes in it, she simply says that anyone can be killed. This showed how Arya is good at playing mind games from a young age.

Right at this moment, the lamp they were carrying starts to shine brighter than ever and gradually a baby or a ghost like thing emerges out of Melisandre. He tells her that to kill the people in her ‘List’, she needs to learn the art of killing without leaving any hints and for that, she has to come to Braavos. However, Arya declines the offer, as she wants to look for her family members. Jaqen does not say much but gives Arya a Braavosi coin. 1. Battle of Blackwater Bay

The Battle of Blackwater Bay is the first big battle in the show and it does not disappoint one bit. The battle starts with Tyrion using wildfire to burn the fleet of ships belonging to Stannis Baratheon. This kills a huge number of men in Stannis’s army. Unperturbed, he arrives with the rest of his army on smaller boats and starts slaughtering the Lannister army. Sandor Clagane, who is leading the troops, manages to kill a few Baratheon men but goes back to the castle when he sees fire, as he is afraid of it. When Tyrion and Joffrey ask him to go back to the field, he refuses and leaves the battle immediately. When the Lannisters are about to lose the battle, Joffrey flees the battlefield too and goes back to the Red Keep to his mother, Cersei Lannister.

From here on, Tyrion, the Hand to the King, takes full command of the Battle and motivates his men to fight for their lives and the kingdom. During the war, a Lannister soldier tries to kill Tyrion but just when he swings his sword, Podrick kills the soldier from behind. However, the sword does flash across Tyrion’s face, leaving him unconscious on the ground and with a wound on his face. When the Lannisters are about to lose the battle, Tywin Lannister arrives with his army, killing a huge number of Baratheon men. Some of them, including Stannis, flee the battle, hence ending the Battle of Blackwater in favour of the Lannisters.
